ON RECORD IS AN ENCYCLOPEDIC LOOK
AT THE EVOLUTION OF POPULAR MUSIC FROM 1978 – 1998.

Celebrating a half-century as one of America’s foremost popular music writers, G. Brown conferred with more than 3,000 musicians in every genre, from superstars such as Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Kurt Cobain to scores of one-hit wonders, all of whom recounted their escapades and reminisced about what their time on the charts meant to them personally and musically. Over the decades, G. also amassed an archive of close to 15,000 rare promotional photos.

two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee

It’s always nice when the person interviewing me knows more about music than I do. Every time I’ve spoken to G. Brown over the decades, he has impressed me with his knowledge and, more importantly perhaps, his humor. I take delight in people who make me laugh, and G. does that constantly. Read his On Record books and enjoy his perspective.

GREGG ROLIE
two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee

I’ve known G. Brown since he rode the bus with Journey for a short stint, and I love the way this guy writes! Each entry is loaded with information and humor that makes you want to go on to the next one and the next and to every book in the series.

BRUCE HORNSBY
Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and virtuoso pianist

G. Brown’s writing is informed, perceptive and incisive, often tinged with his hilariously irreverent sense of humor. He has an abiding respect for music and those who create it. All of these attributes reveal themselves in his On Record collections.

HUEY LEWIS
Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and actor

I’ve always thought that the music journalists from large daily newspapers were more credible than others, if only for the fact that they saw and heard so much more music than anyone else. G. Brown, The Denver Post’s beat writer for 26 years, proves my point with his On Record books.

JESSE COLIN YOUNG
singer, songwriter and founding member of the Youngbloods

In his On Record series, G. Brown makes stories of recorded music come alive by digging into the experiences of the artists—and through his writing, he reveals their humanity. What a gift these books are to music lovers.

KENNY LOGGINS
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and performer

Over the years, I’ve had the good fortune of doing many interviews with G. Brown. He has created a wonderfully interesting retrospective about popular music culture as vinyl morphed into multiple formats. I am honored to be part of G.’s On Record book series, which is both a compelling read and a joy to look at.

STEVE KNOPPER
Billboard editor and author of MJ: The Genius of Michael Jackson

For decades, nobody in Colorado had more access to the biggest stars or wrote more insightfully about music than G. Brown. Finally, with the On Record book series, he digs through his notes for exclusive interviews, digs through the garage for a lifetime of photos and digs through his brain to craft indispensable mini-histories of all your favorite acts.

JEFF “SKUNK” BAXTER
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee

G. Brown has created one of the most substantive and engaging historical book series on popular music that I have ever seen. He really is a dean of musicologists—he knows book, chapter and verse about my guitar work with Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers and way too many studio albums, including mine!

RICHIE FURAY
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee

My friend G. Brown is one of the premier historians and writers of our generation. His On Record books give readers insight and access to those who have made history in the world of rock music, and you get a glimpse into his unique and personal style of interviewing. This great series belongs in everyone’s music library!

JEFF HANNA
Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist

G. Brown’s passion for and knowledge of all things music have always made interviews and conversations with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band a distinct pleasure. Do yourself a favor and check out his On Record book series.
